Tom Cruise and James Corden took to the skies — and then to the ground — on Thursday’s instalment of The Late Late Show.

Still jacked up from the extreme stunts he tackled during the filming of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Cruise persuaded Corden to go skydiving with him in a segment that was equal parts death-defying and delightful.

Corden met Cruise in Perris, California, where the temperature was 43 Celsius and the host was feeling the heat.

“I’ll be honest,” Corden admitted. “I’m terrified. This feels like a mistake.”

Cruise took it upon himself to give Corden the basics about what was to come, including spinning him around on a dolly and introducing him to his jump partner, Danny.

“You’re the guy I’m strapped to?” Corden asked, sizing up Danny’s laid-back appearance. “No, no, no, I don’t think so. We’re not skydiving into Margaritaville.”

In the meantime, Cruise was his normal, manic, high-energy self, and appeared to be having a great time.

“The worst part of this is, if we both die, I will get zero press,” Corden told the actor. “I’ll be a footnote.”

But Cruise was always there with a reassuring word.

“It’s gonna be OK,” he told Corden. “Chances are, we’re gonna make it.”
