Saudi Arabia raps Rohingya's rights abuses
Myanmar urged to ensure safe aid deliveries for the Muslim minority
Cairo: Saudi Arabia has condemned rights violations of the Rohingya in Myanmar and hardships to humanitarian work for the Muslim minority in the western Rakhin state, the Saudi news agency SPA has reported.
The condemnation was voiced by human rights head at the Saudi UN mission in Geneva, Maeshal Bin Ali, who said that supporting Rohingya's cause has been a priority for the kingdom.
The oficial urged the Myanmar government to be committed to safe delivery of relief aid to those in need and to fully cooperate with the UN agencies and their partners in this regard, SPA reported.
"Since 1984, the kingdom has received the Rohingya refugees and provided them with their rights to which it has committed itself," Bin Ali said. "The kingdom continues to espouse their cause until today."
Last September, Saudi Arabia pledged 10 million dollars in aid to the Rohingya at a conference of donors held in New York.
Rights groups have accused Myanmar's military of mounting a violent crackdown on the Rohingya.
Since 2017, thousands of the Muslim minority members have been displaced and fled violence to neighbouring Bangladesh.
Earlier this year, the International Criminal Court launched an inquiry into possible crimes against humanity perpetrated against the Rohingya.
