Cairo: Saudi authorities have foiled an attempt by an Egyptian expatriate to smuggle SR1.3 million to outside the kingdom, the Saudi news agency SPA has reported.

The bid was thwarted at the King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh, a local security official said.

Investigations revealed that the suspect is linked to a group of five resident expatriates including three Egyptians and two Syrians involved in collecting money of an unknown source and transferring it through bank accounts of 10 trade enterprises owned by Saudis in return for commissions, added Major Khaled Al Karidis, an assistant spokesman for the Riyadh police.

A security raid on their residences in Riyadh resulted in seizing SR4.7 million and receipts of bank deposits, according to the official. They were all arrested and legal procedures were taken against them.
