COVID-19: 4 people arrested in Qatar for violating home isolation guidelines

Face three years in jail and a fine of 10,000 dinars if convicted

Cairo: Four people have been arrested in Qatar for having allegedly violated domestic isolation in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

They will be referred to prosecution for questioning. They are accused of breaching home isolation rules set by health authorities that they had earlier pledged to follow, the Qatari news agency QNA reported.

Over the past few days, Qatari authorities have announced several such arrests. Late last month, three others were remanded on similar charges.

Violating domestic isolation in Qatar is punishable by up to three years in jail and a fine of 10,000 dinars.

Qatar so far has recorded a total of 126,164 virus cases and 216 related deaths. The Gulf country has a total population of 2.7 million, including 2.3 million expatriates.
