Municipal authorities halt retail trade to fight coronavirus
Cairo: Retail trade in the central market of the Omani capital Muscat was halted starting from Monday in an effort to limit the spread of the new coronavirus, the Omani news agency ONA reported.
The city’s municipal authorities said that the shutdown of the retail section of the vegetables and fruit market was taken in coordination with the Health Ministry while the wholesale trade in the market will continue from 4 am to 10 pm daily.
The measure is taking effect as of Monday until further notice, ONA said, citing a statement from the municipality.
“While the Muscat Municipality looks forward to cooperation from everyone to protect public health, it calls on everyone to abide by regulations and health rules in handling vegetables and fruits,” it added.
Oman so far has recorded 5,379 virus cases including 25 deaths. Some 3,929 infections and 18 fatalities have been recorded in Muscat.
