Kuwait: 400 expat ministry employees to be sacked

Will be replaced with Kuwaiti nationals as part of the Kuwaitization policy

Dubai: Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Dr. Rana Al Fares, will terminate the service of 400 expat employees in a number of different sectors of the ministry, after earlier the services of 150 employees were terminated in the first batch, Al Rai Newspaper reported.

The names included in the list are expats working in administrative and legal positions, in addition to some technical professions. The minister intends to terminate the services of all expatriate employees to replace them with Kuwaiti nationals as part of the Kuwaitization policy.

She stated that it was planned to end the services of 550 expat employees in batches in the Ministry of Works and the Public Authority for Roads. The last batch is expected to be completed before the end of the current year, however the Minister decided to issue termination letters to all expatriate employees from now.

The percentage of all expat employees in the MPW and the Public Roads Authority does not exceed 5 per cent of the total employees of the ministry, and Minister Al Fares seeks to train Kuwaitis to occupy the positions and take responsibility in the coming years, the daily said, quoting sources.
