Cairo: A Bahraini court has sentenced a Thai woman for five years in prison for dealing in drugs.

The First Major Criminal Court has also ordered the convict to pay BD2,000.

The woman was caught in a raid by anti-narcotics raid on her apartment after she had been trapped by an informant posing as a drug buyer.

Two Thai girls and two Bahraini men were caught taking drugs in the police swoop, according to Bahraini newspaper Al Watan.

The court sentenced the two girls to six months in prison and pay a fine of BD100 each on drug-taking charges. They will be deported from Bahrain after serving the penalty.

The Bahraini defendants were, meanwhile, handed down a one-year jail term and a fine of BD1,000 each.
