Georgia: A teenager was fatally shot by a friend who mistook him for a deer, a local press release reportedly said. The two were out hunting together, according to police, when the incident happened.

Bobby Lane, 17, was in an area of heavy foliage on Saturday when he was thought to be an animal by another hunter, the Glynn County Police Department said in a press release.

A local TV station WJAX reported the incident wherein the 17-year-old died of the fatal shot. The department said that deer hunters should only be using bows during this season. Firearms will be allowed for deer hunting  in the area starting October 19. However, Lane was shot with a rifle.

The alleged shooter and Lane's friend, Romero immediately brought him out of the bush and to a gas station. Lane died in the hospital from his wounds, the authorities added.
