British-Pakistani couple caught with a big haul of heroin at Sialkot Airport
Couple caught allegedly trying to smuggle 25kg of heroin to UK via Dubai
Dubai: A British couple of Pakistani origin were caught at the Sialkot international Airport in Pakistan while trying to smuggle heroin worth Rs380 million (Dh9 million) to the UK.
Identified as Mohammed Tahir Ayaz, 26, and wife Ikra Hussain, 20, reprotedly from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, in the UK, were caught with 25kg heroin which they were allegedly trying to smuggle.
The drugs were hidden in garments and discovered during the scanning process by the Airport Security Force (ASF).
The couple were getting ready to fly out of Sialkot on Emirates flight via Dubai. They were handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ASF) on Saturday for investigation.
If proven guilty, the British couple could face the death penalty for drug smuggling.
The drug haul was said to have been found sewn into female clothes.
The ASF authorities took the heroin and registered a case against the couple.
There are strict laws on drug smuggling in Pakistan, including as the death penalty or life behind bars, if they are found guilty.
