Patna: A man in Bihar faked his own death to escape repeated torture by his wife over financial and domestic issues. The police recovered the man and allowed him to go home with a warning.

Pradeep Kumar Ram, 37, a resident of Kaimur district in Bihar, went missing from his house on new year’s eve and blood spread all over the bed and on the floor in the room he was sleeping. Subsequently, his wife, Kumari Pratibha, 33, a schoolteacher, registered a case with the local police about her husband’s alleged murder.

The police began investigation and launched extensive searches for his “missing body” near the water bodies, bushes and the deserted locations but didn’t get any clue. The police got the first major lead in the case when it was able to find an empty bottle with blood stains some half-a-kilometer away from the house.

“That raised our suspicion since the blood on the bottle matched the same kind of blood which was found splattered on the bed and on the floor. Also, it looked that the blood was poured from some vessels,” a senior police official from Dugawati police station in charge of investigation Virendra Kumar told the media on Saturday.

Eventually, the police recovered the man from neighbouring Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh on December 31 and his subsequent quizzing spilled the beans. During interrogation, the man told the police that he was mentally disturbed by repeated tortures by his wife. According to him, his wife would always hurl abuses at him and also shout at him.

“So I bought a bottle of goat’s blood from a meat shop and spread it on my bed and on the floor to create impression of murder before fleeing the scene,” the man told the police.

“We have registered a case against the man for plotting fake murder but allowed to go him home after he signed a bond paper for not repeating the same crime in future,” the police official said, adding he had also counselled his wife not to torture his husband.
