Hyderabad: A government official has been caught red handed accepting a bribe, just weeks after his wife was arrested for the same crime by the Anti Corruption Bureau.

Like V Lavanya, winner of Best Tahsildar Award of the state government, her husband, N Venkateshwara Naik, a superintendent in the municipal administration department in Hyderabad, was arrested by the ACB while accepting a bribe of Rs250,000 (Dh12,786.9). His associate K Prakash was also arrested in the same case.

The ACB laid the trap for Naik based on the complaint of a contract worker from the same office, V Randheer. The employee said that Naik was demanding a bribe to give him an appointment letter, despite him having worked there for the last 10 months on a salary of Rs10,000.

ACB caught both the accused and produced them before a special court which remanded them to judicial custody.

Lavanya was caught by the Anti Corruption Bureau in July on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe for issuing land documents to farmers as a Tahsildar (revenue officer) of Kashampet. She was also arrested and sent to judicial custody, and her husband was caught just a few days after she was released from jail. Interestingly her husband was absconding after her arrest and had recently re-joined his duty.
