Fire breaks out near Dubai metro station
Roads near Abu Bakr Al Siddiqi metro station were closed as firemen tackled the blaze
Dubai: Three vehicles went up in flames, which also gutted three warehouses close to Abu Bakr Al Siddiqi Metro Station on Sunday, an official said.
Dubai Civil Defence said the fire occurred at 12.25pm, following which fire fighters from Port Saeed, Al Hamriya and Rashidiya were deployed to put out the blaze.
Col Ali Al Mutawa, Assistant General Manager for Rescues and Fires at Dubai Civil Defence, said the fire was brought under control by 4.40pm.
“The fire spread to three warehouses. Two of them were car garages and one contained ink, paper and glue. The fire is under control now,” he added.
UAE residents jumped to social networking sites to share images of the dark clouds that affected areas of Deira's bustling streets and towards the area of Dubai International Airport.
Dubai's Civil Defence said it suspects the warehouse contained gas cylinders, which fuelled the fire and caused it to spread further.
Dubai Police said that a number of roads near the affected area was cordoned off to traffic, including Salah Al Deen Street that leads to the Al Khubaisi area. The roads were temporarily closed for one hour.
