3 tourists get 6 months jail for beating, disfiguring taxi driver

Culprits found guilty of fracturing victim’s nose, leaving him permanently disfigured

Dubai: Three tourists were sentenced to six months in jail each, for beating up a taxi driver and leaving him with a permanently disfigured nose during a heated argument.

In March, the Pakistani driver was sitting in his car outside a hotel in Al Muraqqabat, when he saw the three Saudi tourists assaulting a resident, who was in another vehicle in front of the hotel.

When the driver stepped out of his car and tried to get the Saudi trio to stop beating the resident, he ended up in a heated argument with them.

The three Saudis, aged 25, 28 and 30, beat up the Pakistani driver and fractured his nose.

The three were taken into custody once the police were called to the scene.

On Thursday, the Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the Saudi trio in absentia, as they failed to attend their trial.

Presiding judge Habib Awad said the defendants will be deported after serving their punishments.

The Saudi trio were convicted of beating the Pakistani and causing him a five per cent permanent disfigurement to his nose.

Jobless man has been cleared of practicing unlicensed pharmacology but will spend five years in jail for possessing and consuming Tramadol and resisting an anti-narcotics officer
