Seoul: South Korean tech giant Samsung has filed a patent for a smartphone with pop-out display design that purportedly houses additional speakers.

Samsung filed the patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation). The 35-page document, applied in February this year, has been published on October 15, reports LetsGoDigital.

According to the patent design, the pop-out screen will come outwards from the top panel and will be supported by hinges at the centre of the Samsung smartphone.

Additionally, the speaker grills will be placed at the edges of the pop-out screen, the patent designs show.

To achieve this form factor, the Samsung phone will use a plastic polymer panel that is also available on the original Galaxy Fold.

The company also filed a patent for three foldable smartphone designs with cutouts for inner cameras.

The company last month introduced Galaxy Z Fold2 that sports a 6.2-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main screen when unfolded.

Galaxy Z Fold2 is Samsung's third foldable smartphone after Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip.
