New Abu Dhabi bridge now open to public

Bridge links Port Zayed with the Shahama District, passing through Saadiyat and Yas Islands.

Abu Dhabi: The bridge and expressway linking Port Zayed with the Shahama District (on the Abu Dhabi – Dubai highway) passing through Saadiyat and Yas Islands was inaugurated on Wednesday morning by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Price and Deputy Commander of UAE Armed forces.

The bridge is now open to the public.

A spokesperson from the Tourisim Development and Investment Company (TDIC), government of Abu Dhabi said: “We are working with the department of transport to clear the blocks made for security reasons today.”

The construction of Saadiyat Bridge is one of the biggest infrastructure developments in Abu Dhabi. The bridge will link Abu Dhabi with Saadiyat Island – the 27 square kilometre island lying 500 metres offshore the UAE capital.

A major portion of the expressway to Shahama -about 20.5 kilometre is passing through Yas Island which is being developed by Aldar Properties.
