Baghdad: Turkish troops targeted Kurdish rebel positions in northern Iraq early on Wednesday, an Iraqi border guard said.
A salvo of shells was fired at three areas in Iraq's mountainous border with Turkey, lasting about half an hour.
Major-General Omar Sharif, head of operations for the border guards of the Kurdistan region, said the shelling started at 4:30am.
The Turkish military has not released a statement.
