Dubai: A Jordanian man fatally stabbed his mother on Friday morning during Juma (Friday) prayers, in the country’s Northern Badia region, security officials said, a killing that has stunned the nation and renewed concerns about domestic violence and mental health.
The attack took place in the town of Al Dafina in Mafraq Governorate. According to a statement from the Public Security Directorate, the man assaulted his mother with a sharp object following a domestic dispute. She later died at a nearby hospital.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, and an investigation is underway to determine the motives behind the crime.
Authorities have not released the man’s identity.
Local residents and media reported that the crime occurred just as mosque sermons across the country were urging worshippers to show kindness and obedience to their parents.
Some witnesses claimed the suspect had earlier struck another person with a vehicle before returning home to carry out the fatal stabbing, though this detail has not been confirmed by officials.
