Mosul: Elite Iraqi forces pushed deep into the streets of Mosul on Friday, facing tough resistance from Daesh militants, who have controlled the city for more than two years, a commander said.
Soldiers from the Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) battled their way into the eastern neighbourhood of Al Karama where they were met with bombs and heavy gunfire from Daesh fighters, senior CTS officer Muntathar Salem told an AFP reporter on the edge of the city.
