Manila: Filipinos working in Lebanon have been told to secure themselves and stay indoors amid clashes in the Middle Eastern country.

Honorary consul Joseph Assad urged Filipino workers in a statement on Sunday to follow employers' instructions so they “will not be exposed to harm or accidental shootings''.

Assad said he is monitoring the situation in Lebanon and would immediately advise Philippine officials if action is necessary to protect Filipinos in Lebanon.

There are at least 25,000 Filipinos working in Lebanon despite a deployment ban declared by the Philippine government.
