Dubai: Egypt recently awoke to a horrifying crime that has left the country in shock.

A mother allegedly strangled her three children to death before preparing Suhoor for her husband, local media reported.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Suzan, killed her two daughters and son — Shahd, 12, Mahmoud, 7, and Aya, 5 —after they had their pre-dawn meal (Suhoor).

She reportedly strangled them one by one as they slept in their home in Ezbet El Mantawi, located in the Kafr Hamza area of Khanka, within the Qalyubiya governorate.

According to Egyptian media reports, Suzan is believed to be suffering from a mental illness, which may have driven her to commit the crime.

The tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning, following what has been described as a severe mental breakdown.

Authorities arrested the suspect after her husband, who was reportedly unaware of the crime when it occurred, alerted the police. Security forces have also taken him into custody for questioning.
