Casualties reported as US soldiers raid building in Syria

Damascus: US soldiers stormed a building during a raid on Sunday by US military helicopters in Syria near the border with Iraq, Syrian state television reported.

The state news agency SANA said four US helicopters had taken part in the raid on a civilian building under construction in the Bou Kamal border area. Eight civilians were killed in the raid, it said.

Local residents told reporters by telephone that two helicopters carrying US soldiers raided Hwijeh village, 17 kilometers inside Syria's border.

The US military in Baghdad had no immediate comment.
