ADEN: The Yemeni Army and Joint Resistance Forces have made major advances and retaken strategic sites in the fronts of Al Shuraiqa, Hamala, Tor Al Baha,  Al Qubaita and Haifan from the grip of the Iran-backed Houthi militias, thanks to the air cover and support by the Saudi-led Arab Coalition.

The rebels' ranks and defences were crumbling following the frequent heavy casualties and severe blows they sustained in multiple fronts, according to the Emirates news agency WAM.

In Aden, the pro-government forces have liberated a number of sites in the perimeters of Al Qabbaytah District, north of the Governorate of Lahej, amid mass flee of the rebels.

Other important sites that were liberated included Tor Al Baha, north of Lahej, Dar Sefyan, Jabel Al Sebd, Khalid School, Bayadhi Mountain and Hajma valley.

The forces are now reaching Souq Al Khamis and are engaging in confrontations with the Houthi rebels on the Khasla Mountain. A number of areas were also liberated in the Hamala front.

During these confrontations, the Houthi militias suffered heavy losses in personnel and munitions.

The Yemeni army and resistance forces have also captured large quantities of weapons and munitions and foiled desperate infiltration attempts by the rebels into the strategic Hamala mountain, north of Al Qabbaytah District.

Dozens of Houthi militia elements were wounded during these confrontations.

Yemeni army soldiers block the way as anti-government protestors attend a demonstration demanding the resignation of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, in Taiz, Yemen on Monday, April 11, 2011. Yemen's president is welcoming a proposal by Gulf Arab nations for him to step down to end the country's political crisis. But he indicated he would do so only when his term ends in 2013, a condition already rejected by the protesters calling for his immediate exit.
Yemeni soldiers take a position during the fight against Al Qaida militants in the southern town of Zinjibar, last Thursday. According to media reports, the Yemeni army forces retook several positions from the militants following fierce battles.
