Saudi Arabia warns of heavy penalties for transporting visit visa holders to Mecca during Hajj season

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has issued a stern warning against transporting visit visa holders to Mecca and the holy sites during the Hajj season, announcing penalties of up to SR100,000 for violators.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the ministry stated that the restrictions will be enforced from Dhu Al Qidah 1 until Dhu Al Hijjah 14. Those caught transporting or attempting to transport individuals without valid Hajj permits risk not only financial penalties but also the confiscation of their vehicles.

If the vehicle used in the violation is proven to be owned by the transporter, a partner, or an accomplice, the ministry will seek a court order to seize it.

The Ministry of Interior reiterated the importance of complying with Hajj regulations, which are aimed at safeguarding the safety and security of pilgrims and ensuring they can perform their religious duties peacefully and with ease.

Authorities also urged the public to report any violations. Incidents can be reported by calling 911 in Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, and the Eastern Region, or 999 in other areas of the Kingdom.

Two arrested for violating Hajj transport regulations

In a related development, Hajj Security Forces have arrested two Saudi citizens for illegally transporting 15 individuals in an attempt to smuggle them into Mecca to perform Hajj without the required permits.

The individuals involved have been referred to the competent authorities for legal action and the application of prescribed penalties.

The ministry emphasised that enforcement efforts will continue throughout the Hajj period, with no tolerance for violations that compromise the integrity of Hajj procedures.
