Saudi Arabia: Man arrested for drug abuse in Riyadh

Suspect posted video on social media boasting about the offence

Abu Dhabi: A Saudi man was arrested after he appeared in a video documenting his abuse of drugs in Riyadh, police said.

Riyadh Police said in a statement that the person boasted about his drug abuse in the video clip.

The police said the man, in his 30s, had been remanded in custody and will be moved to the public prosecution for further questioning and trial.

Saudi Arabia imposes extreme penalties for the import, manufacture, possession, and use of both alcohol and illegal drugs. In fact, those found guilty can expect lengthy prison time, heavy fines, and possibly deportation.

Anyone found dealing in drugs in Saudi Arabia is liable for the death penalty.
