Cairo: A woman in Saudi Arabia has voiced concerns that her planned marriage is doomed for a strange reason: she and her fiancé have received two different vaccines against COVID-19, Saudi media reported.

“I’ve got the Oxford vaccine, while my fiancé got the Pfizer vaccine. The rumour has it we cannot make a good husband and wife. I feel extremely worried. Is this true or a mere rumour,” the girl, whose name was not disclosed, said in a question to health authorities.

“This is untrue and scientifically unproved,” the Health Ministry answered.

On December 17, Saudi Arabia began its largest vaccination campaign against COVID-19 after receiving batches of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Last month, the kingdom approved the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

Register for jabs

Nearly 3 million doses of vaccination have been administered in Saudi Arabia since December, according to the latest figures from the Health Ministry.

Health authorities have encouraged the people to register for receiving the jabs via the smartphone app Sehaty and have set up inoculation across the country.

Saudi authorities have said the vaccine is provided for free for citizens and foreign residents.
