Qatar bakers detained for making obscene cakes

Manama: Bakers in Qatar have been detained on charge of making cakes with obscene decorations, the interior ministry has said.

The case, the first of its kind in Qatar, was discovered following a tip-off to the police about the sale of cakes with sleazy designs in a Doha restaurant.

The bakers, from different nationalities, were arrested after the police were cleared by the public prosecutor to raid the restaurant.

The operation was part of efforts by the security agencies to maintain the safety and security of the community and to respect its values, characters and public norms, the ministry statement said.
