Muscat: An Omani woman and her accomplice have been sentenced to death for murdering her husband, according to the Public Prosecution.

The court recently sentenced the woman, in her 40s, and her lover, another Omani, in his 50s, to death for the premeditated murder of her husband, in his 60s, in Barka province in northern Oman, according to the Society and Law Magazine published by Oman’s Public Prosecution.

On May 15, 2016, the woman conspired with her lover to get rid of her husband. The accused man bought ammunition with the help of the victim’s wife to kill her husband.

“They took advantage as the adjacent house where the victim’s sons live was empty. Then the woman guided her lover to the place of her husband inside the house to shoot her husband. He jumped over the wall late at night and shot him in his neck with one bullet,” the report said.

The woman watched as her husband was taking his last breath. “After committing the crime, the two accused carried his body in a vehicle to get rid of it. They threw the body in one of the wadis away from the sight of residents. Then, they returned to the house and cleaned the blood-splattered floor. The next day, the woman pretended that she was searching for her husband after saying that her husband disappeared that night,” the report said.

She even helped in searching of her husband along with other residents. After reporting the matter to the Royal Oman Police (ROP), search operations were conducted and the body was found after two days near a wadi.

The crime scene team at the ROP rushed to the spot and the body was sent to the forensic department for further investigation.

The forensic report showed that there was a fracture in the neck of the deceased as well as a fragment of the bullet was lodged in the body, which emphasised that the victim was murdered,” the Public Prosecution report said.

On being confronted with the evidence, the woman admitted to the crime and gave the details of the incident to the police.
