Oman: Grade 12 students, support staff at examination centres to get jab from May 25

Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Health has announced that vaccinations for grade 12 students will start from May 25, across all governorates of the Sultanate. The Ministry stated that 75,725 people will be vaccinated under this programme, which includes not just the students but also teaching and administrative staff.

Badr bin Saif Al Rawahi, Director of the Infectious Diseases Control Department at the Ministry of Health, stated the vaccination process will include all general diploma students in public and private schools, the faculty supervising the General Education Diploma programme, examination committee members, observers and evaluators, staff in examination centres, applicants for general education diploma examinations or the equivalent as well as the employees of the Educational Measurement and Evaluation Centre and the Correction Centres.

In the meeting held jointly by the Ministries of Health and Education, the preparations for the immunisation drive were discussed, drawing a firm emphasis on commitment to precautionary measures.

Besides, the Ministry of Health also clarified that the vaccine will be given free of cost to all residents and citizens and that the private sector companies have pitched in to vaccinate their staff on grounds of Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Ministry said that the private sector organisations expressed their desire to support national efforts to combat the pandemic by contributing to the Corona Fund, by providing vaccination for employees in their rolls along with providing medicines, personal protective equipment and testing devices to them.
