Muscat: Oman’s police have so far found no evidence that the detained husband of a murdered Indian nurse was involved in her killing, Gulf News has learnt.
The investigations are still underway in the murder of Chikku Robert, a 25-year-old nurse from the south Indian state of Kerala who was found murdered at her residence in Salalah province on April 21.
The husband, L.T., remains under detention in Salalah as the primary suspect in the case, but an informed source has said that police have so far not unearthed any evidence of his involvement and have been unable to extract a confession.
The source told Gulf News that Robert was suspected of having an affair but did not divulge more details on her alleged lover’s identity or whether he was a suspect in the murder.
In May, Omani media outlets cited the victim’s father as saying that L.T. is innocent and that he considers him “like his son”.
“L.T. could not have killed our daughter. He is our elder son, I am calling on Omani authorities to release him,” the victim’s father told the Omani press.
The nurse’s body was laid to the rest in Kerala on May 2.
According to media reports from Oman, Robert was found stabbed to death at her residence. She was five months pregnant, reports added. A native of Angamaly in Kerala, she married her husband from Changanassery seven months ago. Both were reportedly working at Badr Al Samaa hospital in Salalah province. Her husband found her around 7pm stabbed to death in their flat, and reported the matter to the police.
