Muscat: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, will visit Oman to present the Bank Muscat Academic Excellence Awards 2009 for pupils of the Indian Schools in the country.

The Indian Social Club’s Tamil Wing and Bank Muscat have come together to invite Dr Kalam for this award function  to be held on November 20.

“This is the first time that an academic excellence award function is being conducted for all Indian schools across Oman,” said Anil Wadhwa, the Indian ambassador to Oman, during a press conference held today (Monday) at the Indian embassy premises.

He informed that Dr Kalam would also take part in an interactive session titled “Ignited Minds” with a group of 300 children from various Indian schools in Oman at the Embassy auditorium.

After his tenure as a President of India from the year 2002 to 2007, Dr Kalam has dedicated his entire life to inspire and ignite young minds throughout the length and breadth of India and abroad.

Realising the power of Vision 2020 document and its message, the ISC Tamil Wing conducted various contests for teachers and students throughout Oman in its endeavour to make them read and understand the works of Dr Kalam.

The contests received fantastic responses across the student and teachers’ community and altogether there were close to 500 registrations for various contests.

Oratorical contest for teachers titled: Shaping the destiny of a child – A Teacher’s role, A Parents’ role

  2. Dr Rajan Philips, International College of Engg & Mgt
  3. Hemalatha Menon, Indian School Muscat.
