Muscat: A family of three Indians died in a horrific road accident when their car overturned and caught fire near Izki town, about 90km northwest of Muscat on Sunday evening, according to a press release from Royal Oman Police (ROP).
Sreedharan Nair, his wife Rajalakshmi and their son Sreenath, who studied at the Indian School Darseit (ISD), were travelling from Muscat to Nizwa when a burst tyre toppled the speeding vehicle after hitting the road divider.
The vehicle was travelling at a very high speed and was dragged for almost 80 metres before it caught fire,” the ROP Public Relations officer revealed.
Two more people died in a head-on collision that left three seriously injured at Al Mudhaibi in the eastern region of the country.
According to ROP, speeding and overtaking from the wrong side was the cause of the fatal accident.
The police have advised motorists to adhere to speed limits and avoid risky manoeuvres, especially on the national highways.
