Dubai: A Kuwaiti court has fined a woman KD4,000 ($13,090) after finding her guilty of neglecting her children by leaving them unattended while she travelled abroad for plastic surgery, according to Al Seyassah  Arabic daily.

The Misdemeanour Court issued its ruling after testimony from witnesses, including the grandmother, who told investigators the mother had been absent from her children’s lives for several months.

The father confirmed the grandmother’s account, while the son revealed that his mother had abandoned them, expressing his wish to live solely with his father.

Child protection authorities supported these claims in their report. Attorney Abdul Mohsen Al Qattan represented the grandmother as a civil plaintiff, seeking the maximum penalty and compensation. The mother’s lawyer requested her acquittal.

The court grounded its decision on Kuwait’s Child Law No. 21/2015, which guarantees children the right to care and protection from neglect and penalises parents who fail to meet their responsibilities.
