Kuwait’s former MP Duwailah released after being interrogated over Gaddafi links

Abu Dhabi: Mubarak Al Duwailah, a former member of the Kuwaiti parliament, was released after being interrogated by the State Security Agency over leaked recordings that linked him to the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Al Qabas newspaper reported.

The State Security Agency summoned Al Duwailah over an audio leak from his meeting with Gaddafi in Libya, in which he talked about the situation in the Gulf region, Al Qabas quoted a security source as saying.

The audio leaks, which revealed a plan to destabilise security in the Gulf region and Egypt, raised controversy on social media platforms over the past few days.

Through his Twitter account, Al Duwailah justified what was said during his meeting with Gaddafi. “During the meeting with Gaddafi, we were humouring him, while he was talking to reassure him and know what he was planning, and frankly, we did not dare oppose him while we were in his tent,” he said.

Two days ago, Sheikh Ali Al Jarrah Al Sabah, Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs, denied statements made by Al Duwailah, in which he claimed that he conveyed to Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad what happened between him and Qaddafi. Al Jarrah stressed that Al Duwailah’s statements are completely inaccurate.
