Korean Air Flight KE631 involved in accident in Cebu, causing airport shutdown

Cebu, Philippines: Partial operations at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) resumed Tuesday (October 25, 2022), two days after an aircraft overshot the runway, airport officials said.
Korean Air Flight KE631, an Airbus 330, overshot the runway at the country's second-busiest airport on Sunday, prompting aviation authorities to suspend flight operations.
The airline, in a statement, confirmed that Flight KE631 figured in an accident while landing at Cebu and that they are investigating it.
The incident caused slight injuries.
All 173 passengers and crew of Korean Air flight KE631 from Incheon were evacuated safely after the Airbus A330 aircraft overshot the runway on Sunday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said in a report.
Minor injuries were treated at the airport clinic.
MCIA’s operator, GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation, stated on Tuesday (October 25) that the runway will be open from 5 am to 5 pm for the next 14 days.
In a press briefing, authorities said they are doing their best to remove Korean Air flight KE631 from the runway by midnight on Tuesday so they can reopen the airport to accommodate smaller aircraft.
