Pakistan rejects allegations of its nationals’ involvement in Ukraine conflict

Dubai: The Government of Pakistan has firmly denied allegations regarding the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Islamabad described the claims as “baseless and unfounded,” noting that no formal approach has been made by Ukrainian authorities, nor has any credible evidence been presented to substantiate the accusations.

Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated: “Pakistan remains committed to peace and stability in the region and rejects any unfounded claims that attempt to tarnish our country’s reputation. We will engage with the relevant Ukrainian authorities to clarify these baseless allegations.”

Peaceful solution

Pakistan also reiterated its support for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis through dialogue and diplomacy, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter. This position aligns with Pakistan’s broader foreign policy approach, which emphasises non-interference and respect for international law.

The Pakistan Foreign Office’s response came a day after Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that Ukrainian troops in northeastern Ukraine were fighting foreign “mercenaries” from various countries, including China, Pakistan and parts of Africa, and vowed a response.

Conflict

The Ukraine conflict, which began in 2014 and escalated significantly in 2022, has drawn international attention and involvement from various nations, but Pakistan has consistently maintained a neutral stance, calling for negotiations and humanitarian support.
