Kabul: The Afghan transport minister has been fired by Afghan President Hamid Karzai for "negligence and for carrying out suspicious activities", the government said on Monday.
The decision to remove Hamidullah Qaderi was taken during a cabinet meeting, the presidential palace said in a statement. He will now face prosecution, the statement added, without elaborating.
Qaderi's dismissal comes amid growing complaints about endemic corruption in Karzai's government and is less than a month after Karzai reshuffled some members of his cabinet.
Karzai has been leading Afghanistan since US-led and Afghan forces overthrew the Taliban in 2001.
