The Gujarat Government yesterday announced an inquiry into the attack on Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav during his visit to Vadodara.

Lalu visited Vadodara in the aftermath of the train accident at Samalaya on April 21 that left 18 dead and 114 injured.

According to a spokesman of the government, retired High Court judge N.B. Patel will constitute the one-man enquiry commission which will submit its report in three months.

The panel will go into the entire sequence of events from the arrival of the federal minister at Vadodara until his departure including the incidents of the purported attack on him at the SSG government hospital where he had gone to see the injured passengers of the train accident.

The panel will also investigate whether there was a pre-planned conspiracy to attack the minister and the lapses, if any, of the various state agencies besides matters of protocol and coordination with central agencies.
