A 75-year-old man's life was saved during an IndiGo Flight 6E-6011 from Chennai to Guwahati on July 14, when an Indian Army doctor swiftly intervened to address a medical emergency.
According to a statement by the Indian Army, the incident occurred around 6:20 pm when the passenger lost consciousness and began displaying signs of hypoglycaemia—including profuse sweating, a feeble pulse, and cold extremities.
“The cabin crew immediately administered oxygen and requested medical help through an onboard announcement,” the Army said, as quoted by ANI.
Major Mukundan, an Army doctor who was returning from leave, responded to the call and examined the passenger.
“He found the patient semi-conscious, with reactive pupils—classic signs of low blood sugar,” the statement added.
With limited medical supplies on board, Maj Mukundan administered oral sugar and ORS, closely monitoring the patient’s vital signs and oxygen saturation throughout the flight.
Upon landing in Guwahati, the elderly passenger was transferred to the airport emergency room, where Maj Mukundan continued his treatment.
By 8 pm, the patient had regained full consciousness and was stabilised, officials confirmed.
“The swift and selfless action of Maj Mukundan, supported by the IndiGo crew, was crucial in saving the passenger’s life,” the Army said.
