Husband given 15 sleeping pills then administered electric shock to simulate an accident
Dubai: Karan Dev, 36, was brought to Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital in Delhi on 13 July, supposedly unconscious from an electrical shock caused by his wife, Sushmita. Hospital staff pronounced him dead, and the family waived off the post-mortem—until police, suspicious of his young age and odd circumstances, insisted on an autopsy at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
Karan’s younger brother, Kunal, alerted police to possible foul play. He produced Instagram chats showing Sushmita and her cousin Rahul in a romantic relationship—and allegedly exchanging messages about a plan to kill Karan. According to these screenshots, Sushmita gave Karan 15 sleeping pills at dinner, waited until he passed out, and then administered an electric shock to simulate an accident.
Both Sushmita and Rahul were detained. Sushmita confessed to murdering her husband together with Rahul. She reportedly said that physical abuse (a slap) and constant demands for money from Karan—especially ahead of Karwa Chauth—led to her emotional and physical distress.
According to a NDTV report, Delhi Police’s Dwarka DCP Ankit Singh confirmed that charges were filed under applicable provisions and arrests were underway. The couple is now in custody, and they are waiting for the detailed autopsy report.
