New Delhi: Early trends from the Delhi Assembly elections shows the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leading in about 50 seats while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was a distant second in 20 seats.
Among leading AAP candidates, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is leading from New Delhi constituency while Manish Sisodia and Atishi are leading from Patparganj and Kalkaji.
The counting of votes for 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly began amid tight security at 8am today. Delhi went to polls on February 8.
The elections were fought against the backdrop of the recent passing of the CAA (Citizenship (Amendment) Act) bill, and the subsequent nation-wide protests against it. Delhi itself is witness to continuing campaigns for a repeal of the law, with opponents saying the bill discriminates on the basis of religion.
