80-year-old man kills wife who threatened divorce

Kuala Lumpur: Police say they have arrested an 80-year-old Malaysian believed to have fatally stabbed his wife who threatened to divorce him.

A district police official in northern Kedah state quotes witnesses who allege the man plunged a knife into his 73-year-old wife's stomach Monday after an argument outside a village home where she was staying after leaving him recently.

The woman bled to death while villagers took hold of the man and handed him to police, the official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to make public statements.

The Star newspaper reported that the woman left the man for undisclosed reasons after marrying him only last year. He had been visiting her in recent days to urge her not to divorce him, the report said.
