'I was so traumatised, I couldn’t remember where I had kept it'
Dubai: In a heartwarming incident during the Year of Community, a distraught Dubai resident who had rushed to Thumbay Hospital Ajman for his sibling’s emergency treatment accidentally left behind a bag containing more than Dh32,000 in cash – and got it all back, untouched.
On Thursday afternoon, Imtiaz, overwhelmed with worry for his sick sibling who was running a high fever, brought him to the hospital’s emergency room (ER). In the rush and anxiety, Imtiaz unknowingly left his bag behind.
Fortunately, a vigilant ER nurse, Ahmed, spotted the unattended bag shortly afterward and immediately handed it over to facility supervisor Hamid Bin Hussain, who reviewed CCTV footage to help identify the owner.
“We’re trained for these moments. I’m glad the patient was treated well, and in the end, everyone was happy,” Ahmed said.
Inside the bag were identity documents that helped the hospital staff match Imtiaz’s details with their patient records. Soon after, they contacted him with the good news.
“It was a bad day. My sibling was sick, and I brought him to the emergency room. Somehow, I lost my bag, my wallet full of cash, in the ER. I was so traumatised, I couldn’t remember where I had kept it. I spent the whole day wandering, and then suddenly I got a call from Thumbay Hospital,” Imtiaz recalled.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Imtiaz thanked the staff and praised the UAE for its honesty and compassion.
“I received everything, including my wallet. You can find this only in the UAE. Thank you so much to Thumbay Hospital and their security team for taking care of this. This is why we trust Dubai. This is why we love the UAE,” Imtiaz underlined.
In recognition of the team's integrity and swift action, Thumbay Hospital Ajman held a special appreciation ceremony. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of Thumbay Healthcare, personally commended the staff involved.
“This act is a reflection of the integrity we cultivate at every level of our institution. Our people are not just employees – they are guardians of trust and symbols of the care we promise to our patients and their families.”
