Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Court for Family, Civil and Administrative Cases has ordered a woman to pay Dh216,000 plus legal interest to a man after ruling that she had borrowed money and failed to repay it.

The man told the court that he had known the woman socially and, trusting their friendship, agreed to assist her financially when she faced difficulties after her trading accounts were closed.

Over time, he said, he lent her a total of Dh390,000 in instalments. She repaid only Dh102,000, leaving Dh288,000 outstanding despite repeated requests for settlement.

Court documents revealed that no written receipts were signed. Instead, the transactions were largely documented through WhatsApp messages, in which the man pressed her for repayment.

In one exchange, the woman acknowledged owing Dh312,000, while the man maintained the balance was Dh318,000.

The woman denied receiving more than Dh102,000, insisting she had already repaid this amount through bank transfers. However, the court found that the WhatsApp conversations substantiated the man’s claim of a larger loan.

Both parties acknowledged that Dh102,000 had been repaid, leaving an outstanding balance of Dh216,000. The court therefore ordered the woman to pay that amount along with legal interest.
