Young woman survives fall from RAK mountain

Ras Al Khaimah: A young woman in her 20's survived a fall into a ravine from the UAE's tallest mountain here on Friday, Ras Al Khaimah Police said on Monday.

The woman, an Arab, reportedly drove up to 1,910-metre  Jebel Jais in her car, and explored the area on foot, but she slipped from a rock and fell several metres into a ravine, according to the rescue team.

Major Tareq Al Sharhan, head of the RAK police ambulance and rescue department, said they received a call on Friday afternoon from a relative of the victim asking for urgent help.

A rescue team reached the area of Jebel Al Jais where the young woman fell.

Initially, the rescue team could not reach the woman as she fell into a deep and narrow area.

The rescue team called  Ras Al Khaimah Police Air wing, whose also could not reach the woman due to rugged terrain.

Finally, a team of police mountain climbing expert dropped rope in the area where the woman fell.

She was lifted up from the ravine using climbing ropes.

Rescuers said the woman, who suffered a fracture in her leg, was rushed to hospital for treatment.
