UAE weather: Dust alert issued across parts of the country

The Met Office also forecasts a significant decrease in temperatures this weekend

Dubai: Residents across parts of the country were advised to exercise precaution as dusty weather conditions are expected.

 The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued a yellow dust alert today, March 21. The alert states, “Fresh to strong southeasterly winds causing blowing dust and sand.”

The alert also mentions that horizontal visibility will be reduced to less than 2000m over some areas until 6pm today.

The lowest temperature recorded today was 12.3 degree Celsius in Raknah, Al Ain region. Temperature highs, on the other hand, are expected to be between 30 and 35 degree Celsius today, over coastal and island regions.

Weekend forecast

A significant decrease in temperatures is expected on Sunday and Monday, March 23 and 24, with a probability of light rainfall over islands on Sunday morning.

Moderate to fresh winds may cause blowing dust and sand over land, reducing the horizontal visibility from Sunday to Tuesday, March 23 to 25, respectively.

Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 50 km/hr during these days, across parts of the country.
