Dubai: Indian expats in the UAE paid heartfelt tributes on Thursday to the victims of the tragic Ahmedabad air crash that left at least 290 dead and many injured.

At a curtain-raiser event for the upcoming International Day of Yoga, the Indian Consulate in Dubai observed a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in one of the most devastating plane crashes in recent history.

Consul General of India in Dubai Satish Kumar Sivan led the solemn tribute, joined by community leaders, yoga instructors, and members of the media. Attendees expressed their solidarity with the families affected by the disaster.

Sad moment for humanity

Speaking to reporters later, Sivan said: “We just had the heart-rending incident of a plane crash.  It's a very sad moment for not just Indians, for all of humanity. We thank everybody who joined us today for observing a minute of silence for the departed souls. We should all stand together and pray for their peace.”

Community group's condolences

Meanwhile, the Indian Association Sharjah issued a condolence message. “It is with profound sorrow and deep sadness that Indian Association Sharjah expresses our heartfelt condolences on the tragic plane crash that took place in Ahmedabad, resulting in the loss of many precious lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this incredibly difficult time.”

“We extend our deepest sympathy to those who have lost their loved ones in this heart-breaking incident. We understand the pain and grief that such a tragedy brings, and our hearts go out to all those affected by this catastrophic loss,” said the message issued by Nissar Thalangara, president of the Indian Association Sharjah.

“In these trying times, it is our collective responsibility to offer our support and compassion to those in need. We stand in solidarity with the affected families, the people of Gujarat, and all those impacted by this tragedy. We hope that the authorities will continue to take all necessary actions to investigate the incident, while ensuring the safety of air travel for all in the future. May the departed souls rest in peace, and may the bereaved families find strength and courage to endure this unimaginable loss,” it added.
