An unlicensed driver has been arrested after allegedly reversing his bus into a service station worker
Ajman: An unlicensed driver has been arrested after allegedly reversing his bus into a service station worker.
The incident happened on Sunday morning at Al Nafesa Automobile Service Station in Ajman industrial area, an official at Ajman Police told Gulf News.
The victim, a 27-year-old Bengali man identified as Shahid Ali, was taken to Khalifa hospital with fractures after the incident at around 5.30am.
He remains in a stable condition.
The 28-year-old Pakistani driver of the bus has been charged with driving without a licence and aggravated driving without due care.
He has been sent to police custody and to a court for further action.
Mohammad Rukin Al Deen, who works at Al Nafesa service station told Gulf News his colleague, Ali, worked there for one year and five months.
The driver attempted to move the bus from its position after it had been washed. The suspect reversed into Ali, who was standing behind the bus.
He did not notice him but then heard him scream and saw him lying under the bus.
“The scene was horrible, but thanks to God that Ali is still alive,” said Rukin Al Deen.
Police have urged drivers to take care while reversing out of driveways or parking spaces and to be aware of vulnerable pedestrians, cyclists or small children.
