Ramadan, the holy month of fasting observed by Muslims around the world, is expected to begin on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, according to preliminary astronomical calculations. The date is set to mark the first day of Ramadan in the Hijri year 1447.

The Emirates Astronomy Society said that, based on the anticipated position of the moon and its visibility at sunset on the 29th of Sha’ban, the crescent is likely to be visible across most regions of the Islamic world. This visibility would allow for the formal declaration of the start of Ramadan the following day, in accordance with traditional lunar observance.

While astronomical data strongly points to a February 18 start, religious authorities across the Muslim world will make the final determination following the official moon sighting, as is customary.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed through fasting from dawn to sunset, along with increased prayer, reflection, and community gatherings.

The final date may vary slightly by country, depending on local moon-sighting methods.
