Sharjah: As the summer sun bears down on the UAE, bringing soaring temperatures and scorching roads, Sharjah Police are intensifying efforts to keep the emirate’s streets safe. Their message is clear: a simple vehicle check could save a life.
In a recent campaign, the General Command of Sharjah Police highlighted the critical importance of regular vehicle inspections — especially during the summer months, when extreme heat can quietly transform minor technical issues into major road hazards. Central to their message is a particular focus on tyres, which often take the brunt of the heat.
“Summer heat puts additional stress on vehicles,” explained Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Alay, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department. “That’s why we’re urging drivers to closely monitor tyre pressure and condition. A neglected tyre can pose a deadly risk.”
To reinforce this message — quite literally — traffic patrols have been conducting random roadside inspections, particularly targeting heavy vehicles. These spot checks are not solely about enforcement; they’re also educational. Officers are engaging with drivers, offering guidance on proper vehicle maintenance and explaining why it matters.
“It’s not just about avoiding fines,” said Colonel Alay. “It’s about keeping everyone on the road safe — from families heading to the beach to truckers on long-haul journeys.”
Colonel Khalid Mohammed Al Kay, Director of the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that regular inspections can prevent breakdowns and serious accidents. “We’ve implemented several proactive measures,” he said, “to raise awareness among drivers about the importance of preventive maintenance, especially tyre checks. It’s a small step that can make a big difference.”
Beyond enforcement, Sharjah Police are leveraging every available channel to educate the public — through social media, public service announcements, and community outreach initiatives. Their aim is to promote a culture of shared responsibility when it comes to road safety.
“Road safety doesn’t start with the police,” said Colonel Alay. “It starts with every driver’s awareness and accountability. When drivers take responsibility, everyone benefits.”
As temperatures continue to rise, the reminder from Sharjah Police is both timely and essential: a well-maintained vehicle is not just a smoother ride — it’s a safer one.
