Dubai: Safe drivers will be rewarded for their road manners and courtesy starting next week.
Caltex RoadStar, Dubai's biggest road safety campaign, will start on Saturday and run until March 29.
In identifying the winners, police will select drivers who observe speed limits and lane discipline, wear seat belts, use hands-free mobile phones and child safety seats.
Road manners and courtesy are the top preferred qualities on the checklist. Once selected, the driver will be stopped and immediately presented with a certificate endorsed by Dubai Police, a cash prize of Dh750 and either a BT205 or BT150 Bluetooth headset in addition to other prizes.
Together with Dubai police and with support from local media partners, Radio 2 and Gulf News, the official newspaper, Bridgestone, Jabra and Lexus, the Caltex RoadStar team will patrol the streets of Dubai during morning and evening rush hour to spot safe drivers.
Brigadier Eisa Aman Obaid, Acting Director of the General Traffic Department of Dubai Police said: "There are motorists who do not understand the importance of safe driving. Without the efforts from everyone, we can not succeed in spreading awareness among motorists."
